Washington Jazz Arts Institute
The Washington Jazz Arts Institute nurtures young musicians in the Washington D.C. area by supporting their efforts to create music and to pursue music related careers. World class jazz instruction is free to all participants, eliminating the barrier of cost for those unable to pay. The professional level of WJAI’s staff is reflected in the number of participants who return year after year as paid interns once they go on to college or begin their careers.
The 2025 Creativity grant will be used 1) to increase professional workshops outside of its regular programming, and 2) to update and improve the organization’s website.
The Washington Jazz Arts Institute was nominated by Davie Yarborough, a 2003 Creativity Foundation Legacy winner who has been a board member of WJAI, and is currently an advisor to the organization.
