MERYL STREEP
2008 Benjamin Franklin Creativity Laureate in the Arts
ctress Meryl Streep has portrayed an astonishing array of roles in an illustrious career in the theater, film, and television. The two-time Academy Award winner and recipient of a record-breaking 14 Oscar nominations had never acted in a drama before her sophomore year at Vassar College, where she won the title role in the Strindberg play Miss Julie. Today, Streep is widely respected as one of our most distinguished and talented actors.
In addition to her accomplishments as an actress, Streep is also a champion of many causes. She does her advocacy work with several organizations, including the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Medical School; Healthy Child HealthyWorld; and Partners in Health, which promotes health and social justice for poor families and disadvantaged children.
On Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Baird Auditorium of the Natural History Museum, Meryl Streep will be presented with the Benjamin Franklin Laureate Prize for Creativity by Laurie Kahn-Leavitt (who took over as Chair of the Junto, the Executive Committee of the Foundation after the death of her father and founder, B. Franklin Kahn on March 8, 2007). After the ceremony, Ms. Streep will reflect on the role of creativity in her life and work and her thoughts on how creativity can be nurtured and developed.
